Welcome

Medical Protective is pleased to offer our insureds practicing obstetrics an excellent educational resource aimed at improving perinatal safety.

Successful completion of a combination of courses that provide greater than 7 CME credits (via joint sponsorship with ACOG) will earn Medical Protective insureds a 5% premium credit on their next three policy years. Doctors who are currently in the first year of receiving a five percent risk management credit from a previous program are welcome to complete a course, but a further discount will not be applied to their premium. Additionally, participating doctors need to successfully complete the course prior to the policy renewal date for which they would like the credit to begin.

(Premium credit eligibility and amount subject to state insurance filings and policy type. Completion of a risk management course does not imply or guarantee renewal.)

Labor and Delivery… Areas of Risk, Opportunity for Learning

A recent review of obstetrical cases at MedPro confirms the fact that many malpractice claims come about because of difficulties with labor and delivery management along with inadequate communication.  Failure to appreciate non-reassuring fetal electronic monitor patterns and failure to recognize and treat shoulder dystocias are two of the most common themes seen in MedPro claims.

With these issues in mind, as well as the topic of proper management of operative deliveries, the APS courses are recommended to improve the safety of both mothers and infants in obstetrical cases.

Having a shared vision of consistent, high quality care in the obstetrical arena will not only improve the safety of your obstetrical patients, but will help to lessen the risks of malpractice litigation that sometimes accompanies this care.
